A specialty metals manufacturer contacted Precision Industrial Services about their structural issues with their Dust Collector. Within a few days after contact, a team member was able to be at the job site assessing the weathered damage to the current baghouse. The Dust Collector had taken on so much rust damage that it had become structurally unsound and had become a danger to the building and the employees around it.
The damage also caused the Dust Collector to have severe performance issues causing the metal dust inside the building to accumulate in the current ductwork and machinery. The accumulation of metal dust was becoming a hazard to the machines and equipment inside the building, as well as the employees.
Precision Industrial Services quickly created a plan to replace the current dust collector with a new stainless steel pulse jet baghouse from Air Cleaning Technologies. We would also replace ductwork with new stainless steel ductwork, to minimize the chance of future rust issues. A pulse jet baghouse was selected because there was a chance of some moisture in the airstream. The fabric bag material can still do an excellent job at cleaning the air even in the presence of small amounts of moisture. The bag life would also be much longer than that of a cartridge style filter on this same application.
We agreed to one week of downtime in order to safely remove the old equipment and install the new. We worked with Superior Crane to safely remove the old unit. There were no lifting points on the old dust collector so we had to use advance rigging techniques in order to remove the old unit. Once the new baghouse was powered up, the dust extraction in the saw room increased significantly. There was so much suction with the new dust collector that the variable speed drive for the main motor had to be dialed down to keep from pulling cooling fluid into the system. We worked with the customer to get the system dialed in perfectly and now they can focus on there manufacturing processes instead of an old unreliable dust collector.
